About Royce Rolls Cafe

Tucked inside St Nicholas Market, this is a proper old-style market café — a bit rough around the edges, in a way most people seem to like rather than mind. Buggy access works and there are high chairs, though the setting means seating is more stall-bench than roomy, so a folded pram is easier at busy lunchtimes. The rolls and wrapped baps are the thing to get, and portions run generous: one couple came back two mornings running for the breakfasts, rating the roast potato and coleslaw salad above fancier places. The Spanish omelette with a crunchy panini gets a shout too, plus falafel salad, sausage rolls and cakes. Plenty of vegetarian and vegan choices, some wheat-free treats, oat milk chai. Food arrives fast and the staff are warm. Cash or card. City-centre location means no parking nearby.
