Privacy Policy
Last updated: 5 May 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Family Friendly UK ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, and protects your personal information when you use our website. We're committed to handling your data in line with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
Who we are
Family Friendly UK is a directory of family-friendly restaurants across the UK. We are the data controller for any personal data you provide through this site. If you have any questions about this policy or how your data is handled, please contact us through our contact form.
What we collect
We may collect the following information:
- Information you submit — when you suggest a restaurant, sign up to our newsletter, or contact us, we collect the details you provide such as your name, email address, and any message you send.
- Usage information — like most websites, we collect basic information about how visitors use the site, such as pages viewed and approximate location, to help us improve the service.
- Location data — if you use the "Near me" feature, your browser will ask for permission to share your location. This is used only to centre the map; it's not stored or shared.
How we use your data
We use the information we collect to:
- Respond to restaurant suggestions and other enquiries
- Send our newsletter (only if you've signed up — you can unsubscribe at any time)
- Understand how the site is used, so we can make it better
- Comply with our legal obligations
Our lawful bases for processing under UK GDPR are: your consent (e.g. newsletter sign-up), the performance of a service you've requested (e.g. responding to a suggestion), and our legitimate interests (e.g. improving the site).
Cookies and analytics
We use a small number of cookies to make the site work and to understand how it's used:
- Essential cookies — required for core functionality such as remembering your preferences. These don't need consent.
- Analytics cookies — help us count visitors and see which pages are popular, in aggregate. We don't use these to identify individuals.
- Mapbox — our interactive map is provided by Mapbox, which may set cookies for performance and crash reporting. See the Mapbox privacy notice.
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Blocking cookies may affect how the site works.
Sharing your data
We don't sell your personal data. We share it only with trusted service providers needed to run the site (such as our newsletter provider and our hosting platform), and only to the extent needed for them to provide their service. These providers act under contract and are themselves obliged to protect your data.
How long we keep your data
We keep personal data only as long as we need it for the purposes set out above. Email addresses on our newsletter list are kept until you unsubscribe. Suggestions and enquiries are kept for up to two years after we've replied.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to:
- Ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Ask us to correct data that's inaccurate
- Ask us to delete your data ("right to erasure")
- Object to or restrict our processing of your data
- Withdraw consent at any time, where consent is the basis for processing
- Lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office
To exercise any of these rights, contact us through the contact form.
Children
This site is intended for use by adults planning meals out with their families. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page tells you when it was last changed.
