Milan Italian Restaurant
Popular Italian near the Mayflower with a good-value pre-theatre set menu, wood-fired pizza, high chairs and free parking — book ahead.

Noodle shop · Southampton
A small noodle bar near the theatres that punches well above its size — the room isn't huge, but there's space enough, buggy access, high chairs and a kids' menu, and food lands fast, which matters when someone's patience is running out. Portions are enormous: even the "small" broth noodles defeat most adults. The stone pot rice is the thing to order — it arrives still steaming and the rice crisps at the bottom like paella — and gyoza, spring rolls, king prawn fried udon and the beef stir-fry udon with panko squid all get named again and again. Bubble teas (truffle, black sesame) are a good bribe. The staff are friendly and happy to adapt dishes, and there's an open kitchen. It fills up quickly at peak times, and the odd person has found the beef drier than promised.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
