Housed in a former church, this is a big, high-ceilinged space in Southampton with a stage downstairs — which cuts both ways for families. Midweek and early evening it's roomy enough for a pram, with high chairs, a kids' menu, vegan options, outdoor seating and free parking, and the staff are genuinely warm with children: one group of four young children were handed bags of little bits and bobs on arrival that kept them busy the whole meal. Food comes out hot and together, which matters when someone's hungry, and portions are generous — the brie bites and the gammon with duck egg get particular praise, and the desserts are a small event. Do check what's on downstairs before booking, though: when a party or a gig is running, the noise carries upstairs and quiet dinners get swallowed.
