Black Lion
Historic Brighton pub with a heated beer garden, roomy booths, standout fish and chips, and a hot Sunday roast with endless gravy.

Pub · Brighton
Brighton's oldest pub turns out to be an easy stop with children in tow — buggies get through, high chairs are there, and there's a kids' menu alongside proper pub cooking. The Sunday roast is what people come back for, and the chips are crisp and enormous, big enough to share with a small person who claims not to be hungry. Even when it's full, food and drinks arrive fast, which matters when someone is melting down. The front outdoor seating is the sweet spot for prams and for watching the street go by after the beach. Inside is olde-worlde and a bit dim — charming, though not roomy. Worth knowing: evenings get loud, with live music in the courtyard bar at weekends, so lunchtime is the calmer bet. One parent found it simply "a great find".
