Right on Penarth seafront near the RNLI station, this is the kind of place where the sea breeze does half the work of keeping everyone calm — the outdoor tables have big umbrellas for hot days, and the views buy you a few extra minutes of patience from a restless four-year-old. Buggy access, high chairs, a kids' menu and free parking are all sorted, and the team have a real soft spot for celebrations: one family arrived for a birthday and left with complimentary drinks and a sparkler-topped dessert while the staff sang. The homemade Welsh cakes get the most affection, though the fish and chips and crab salad are worth ordering too. Worth knowing: it's understandably popular, so book ahead, and prices lean toward the seaside premium — around £25 for fish and chips with a pint. Live music some days, occasionally jazz.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
