About Red Tiger Bristol Malaysian Restaurant

Tucked into St Nicholas Market, this is a small Malaysian counter run by a husband-and-wife team who are warm with children and quick with the food — useful when a toddler is past the point of waiting. The nasi lemak is the thing to order: fragrant rice, rich sambal, crispy ikan bilis, peanuts and cucumber, with chicken rendang tender enough that one family found it mild enough for their toddlers, who happily ate simplified plates of rice, cucumber and egg. The roti canai is made fresh on site, flaky and soft, and there's teh tarik and a Milo Dino piled with powder for older kids. A kids' menu and high chairs are available. It's market seating — informal, busy at lunch, not much room for a pram — and popular dishes sell out, so go early.
