Warm, authentic Turkish grill in central Edinburgh with a kids' menu, huge sharing mixed grills and famously quick, friendly service — small room, so book.

Italian · Edinburgh
Broughton Place is a good bet with children in tow — there's a kids' menu, high chairs and free parking, which takes the sting out of a wet Edinburgh afternoon. Inside it's cosy and warm-feeling, the sort of room that makes a grey day better, and the staff are welcoming without fuss. Food comes out fast — pasta "served within minutes" — which matters when someone's about to melt down. The focaccia is the thing to order, especially the rosemary or the buffalo version, and the melanzane al forno gets described as an Italian lasagne, rich and comforting. Portions are generous, the affogato is enormous, and there are vegan options. Two snags: it's genuinely busy, so book ahead if you're eating at a normal time, and a few have found the room chilly.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
