A proper Glasgow local opposite the Theatre Royal, this one is quiet and easy in the afternoons — a clean, tidy bar with room to park a buggy and plenty of space before the evening crowd builds. High chairs and a kids' menu are there, and the staff are the real draw: warm, chatty, quick behind the bar, and unfazed by big groups, with one family of nine calling them "extremely accommodating". Prices are gentle, the Guinness has something of a reputation, and there's usually something on — karaoke, the football, St Patrick's Day. Two honest caveats: the toilets are tired and could do with an update, and evenings get lively and loud with a strong Celtic-supporting crowd, so this is a daytime or early-doors stop with children rather than a Friday-night one.
