Nottingham's build-your-own Chinese street food spot is a properly casual place, which works in your favour with children — you scan a QR code at the table, choose what goes in the bowl, and food arrives fast, which matters when someone's patience is running out. There's plenty of seating, it's clean and tidy (the toilets included), and there's a kids' menu and high chairs. The braised chicken rice and the beef noodle soup are what people come back for — tender meat, rich savoury broth, big portions for the money. Being able to customise the malatang means picky eaters get exactly what they'll eat, and you set your own spice level, which is worth doing carefully because the hot dishes are genuinely hot. The team are warm and quick. One thing: sharing sets can be poor value, so ordering individual bowls works out better.
