A stop-off on the walk to Eyam that works just as well with children in tow — free parking, buggy access and outdoor tables in the village centre, though those tables go fast in good weather and inside is cosy rather than large. The counter is where it wins: orange and almond cake people call "super moist", warm treacle tart, hot chocolate with sprinkles, toasties, fresh salads and a vegan bake and sausage roll that get singled out. Kids' menu and high chairs are there, breakfast too (no full English). The staff are genuinely warm — blankets offered on cold days, apologies for any wait. Do go early: drinks took around fifteen minutes one busy Saturday and the cakes had sold out before noon. Dogs welcome, and the outdoor loo is unexpectedly smart.
