Set right against the cliffs in Stoney Middleton, this handsome old building surprises you — there's a little museum inside with exhibits about the valley, which buys you a few minutes of distraction while food is ordered. Inside you can watch the chefs at the wood-fired oven, which children tend to find fascinating. The Margherita and mushroom pizzas come in for particular praise, and the pizza nachos (with homemade nachos) are a good sharing plate for a table of grazers. Plenty of seating indoors and out, high chairs, a kids' menu, level buggy access and lots of parking. Staff greet you warmly and usually let you pick your table. Worth knowing: it gets busy in the evenings, and one family waited 45 minutes for burgers — better for a relaxed lunch than a hungry-toddler emergency.
