A refurbishment and change of hands has clearly done this Sparkwell pub good, and Sunday lunch is the meal families keep coming back for — generous roast lamb (one table couldn't finish theirs and took the rest home), hummus with warm bread to start, and a vanilla praline affogato worth saving room for. The rooms are described as airy but cosy, with free parking outside, buggy access, high chairs and a kids' menu, plus outdoor seating when the weather plays along. Portions are big and the welcome warm; four people ate well with wine for around £100, which is fair for cooking this careful. Two honest notes: the background music can be oddly poppy for the setting, and service has occasionally been slow to notice new arrivals — worth catching someone's eye at the bar.
