Book if you can: turning up on spec often means a wait, and with children in tow that's the difference between a nice lunch and a meltdown. The kitchen is tiny but sends out hearty, generous plates — ale pie with cabbage, steak pie in merlot gravy, fish and chips with plenty of peas, and triple-fried chips that people talk about long after.
