Ballkan Bar Restaurant
A Southampton restaurant with top early reviews, vegan options, and mid-range prices that suit a family meal out.

Pub · Southampton
Tucked off Shirley High Street in a residential pocket of Freemantle, this 1860s local has the kind of worn-in character that keeps children curious — creaky floorboards, pre-decimal coins set under glass on the bar, a dartboard room and a stack of board games (several versions of Monopoly among them) to see you through a long lunch. There's a paved garden out the back that comes into its own in summer, free parking, high chairs and a kids' menu, and the staff are consistently warm — one family who held a 50th here said they couldn't have been more helpful. Two honest snags: mind the step at the entrance and the uneven old floors, which make buggy manoeuvring fiddly, and it's a proper drinkers' pub with five rotating real ales, busiest on Saturday nights when a band plays.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
