Big, contemporary pub on the edge of Stone with plenty of seats, subdued lighting and comfy furnishings — the sort of room where a pram isn't a problem and nobody flinches at a bit of noise. High chairs and a kids' menu are sorted, there's free parking, and the terrace is lovely on a sunny day. The menu is pub food with a bit more ambition: the garlic flatbread with cheese gets ordered twice, the black pudding scotch eggs and pork belly draw real praise, and there's a Thai-inspired rice bowl if you want something lighter. Vegan options too. Two honest notes — it gets extremely busy, so book, and service can swing from very attentive to a long wait when it's full. The toilets, oddly, get their own fan club: one visitor calls them "sparkly clean" and properly maintained.
