About The Village Kitchen

Tucked into the heart of Whaley Bridge near the canal basin, this family-run café pulls off the trick of feeling homely while still making you feel treated. Food arrives fast and hot — useful when someone small is losing patience — and portions are big enough that the home-baked cakes are worth sharing. The full English and the vegan breakfast both get raved about, as do the pancakes with fruit. There are two outdoor seating areas, upstairs and downstairs, well spaced out and looking over the River Goyt, which is lovely on a warm day. High chairs, a kids' menu, buggy access and free parking are all sorted, and the staff have a reputation for taking things in their stride — one parent, arriving with a friend's new baby, described the welcome as simply lucking out. Dogs are welcome too.
