The Raeburn Bar
Roomy Edinburgh pub with a kids' menu, high chairs, beer gardens and a cracking full Scottish breakfast — book ahead for food.

There's a play corner near the front — properly kitted out, not an afterthought — which buys parents enough time to actually eat a starter while it's hot. The room is comfortable and roomy enough for a pram, with a separate menu for wee ones alongside high chairs, and the staff are warm and good at steering you towards things without any fuss. Food is hearty Scottish comfort cooking: haggis (the fried version wins over first-timers), a benchmark Scotch egg on piccalilli, seared hand-dived scallops in the shell, fish pie, and a spelt and lentil burger if you're vegan. Puddings get people talking — the sticky toffee with toasted pecans hidden under the ice cream especially. It's Stockbridge gastropub pricing rather than cheap, and one parent's advice holds: "definitely try to get a booking."

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
