Right opposite the castle, this is an old-school city-centre boozer that's been given a proper going-over — clean, comfortable, and now doing food that people are genuinely surprised by. The sizzler mixed grill and the Cajun chicken dirty fries come up again and again, served in baskets, cooked to order, and cheap enough that a family lunch won't sting. There's a kids' menu, high chairs, and room to get a pram in. Staff are warm and unfussy — one visitor turned up with a dead phone and was handed a charger and a free drink. Two honest caveats: the big screens mean rugby and football days are packed and very loud, and the music sometimes needs asking down. Come at a quieter hour and it's an easy, friendly stop with historic Cardiff photos on the walls.
