Tucked opposite the big hotel on the road out of Hexham, this bakery-café is easy to miss and worth slowing down for. Inside it's clean, cosy and cottage-ish, with plenty of tables in and out, so there's room to park a buggy and let a toddler wriggle. High chairs, a kids' menu and free parking take the friction out of a stop mid-walk. The quiches get the loudest praise — one parent called them the nicest they'd ever had — alongside doorstep sandwiches on your choice of bread, homemade soup, sausage rolls and cakes that stop conversation (Biscoff, coffee, raspberry meringue roulade). Portions are generous and prices reasonable. Staff are warm and quick with children. Not everything lands every time; the odd soup or latte gets a shrug. Gluten-free options are plentiful, and dogs are welcome too.
