Tucked into quiet countryside but only minutes from Hexham, this is the kind of pub that suits a family day out around Hadrian's Wall — plenty of free parking, buggy access, high chairs and a kids' menu that families say is genuinely good rather than an afterthought. Sunday roasts are the thing here: the multi roast, pork belly and steak and ale pie all get proper praise, and food tends to arrive quickly and hot, which matters when someone's hungry and wriggling. Gluten-free needs are handled unusually well, with much of the menu adaptable and staff who know the detail. The beer garden is a lovely spot to let children stretch their legs in the sun.
