A country pub-with-rooms on the edge of Cheltenham, handy for a Sudeley Castle day out, with free parking on site and a kids' menu and high chairs so you're not improvising. The views are the thing here — big open countryside from the conservatory and reception, lovely even in the rain, and a fireplace-and-Christmas-decorations sort of warmth in winter. Portions are generous, breakfast is a proper spread of cereals, fruit, pastries and cooked plates, and desserts get more praise than anything else. Staff come in for consistent warmth: patient, chatty, one parent noting nothing was too much trouble. Two honest snags: food quality is hit and miss — some meals arrive tasting reheated and pricey for what they are — and there are steps on every level, so a pram means carrying.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
