Tucked into a quiet fold of the Kent countryside, this one rewards the drive out. The grounds are the real draw for families — big green spaces and a garden with plenty of umbrella-shaded seating where children can run about safely while you finish a drink. Sunday lunch is the thing to come for: proper roast beef, fish and chips people rate highly, apple crumble and sticky toffee pudding with marmalade ice cream. Nothing fussy, just cooked well. There's a kids' menu, high chairs, buggy access and free parking, and the kitchen will happily sort vegan plates. The staff are consistently warm — one parent called the welcome "warm" and thoughtful down to small details. Worth booking, and check opening days before setting off.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
