Set opposite the church in a quiet Kentish village, this is a proper old country pub — traditional decor, low ceilings, a spacious beer garden with an outdoor bar and plenty of seating options for when the children need room to fidget. Ample free parking and clean toilets take some of the sting out of a family outing, and the staff will genuinely try to accommodate you: extra carrots for a fussy eater, a table decorated for a birthday, even the private room at the front for bigger gatherings. Portions are enormous — the sharing roasts stretch between three children with everyone full up, and the goose-fat chips and truffle fries get raved about. Prices feel fair for the quality, around £19 for a generous fish main. Worth knowing: it's closed Monday to Wednesday, service can be slow when busy, and booking is wise.
