Set in the parkland of the Bridwell estate, this is a walk-then-cake sort of stop, and the setting does a lot of the work with children in tow. The terrace sits under a big old shady tree looking out across the grounds, so a pram parks easily and noise matters less than it would indoors — and there are usually deer in the distance to point at. Inside is light and spacious with high chairs, a kids' menu and vegan options. The lime cake and victoria sponge get the loudest praise, alongside good coffee, leek and potato soup and properly made toasties. Parking is free and the staff are warm with families. Worth knowing: non-members pay a £5 entry fee for the estate, £2 of which comes back as a token against food or drink. Dogs welcome, paths muddy after rain.
