Tucked into a nursery and village shop, this is the kind of stop that turns a Sussex drive into a proper morning out. There's plenty of parking and enough seating that you're not hovering for a table with a pram in tow, plus lots of different little areas to settle into — cosy and lodge-ish inside, with blankets left out for chilly days on the outdoor tables. Staff are genuinely warm and flexible; one visitor asked for a salad that wasn't on the menu and got one made up to order. Food arrives piping hot and portions are big: the American pancakes with crispy bacon, the halloumi and beetroot hummus wrap, and the thick crinkle-cut curly fries all get raved about. Under a tenner for most mains, high chairs, a kids' menu and vegan options. Dogs welcome too. Toilets are spotless.
