Cafés · Heathfield
A working Sussex farm sits right outside the windows here, and the cafe is a big barn-like room with white walls and views over the fields — roomy enough that a pram isn't a problem, and there's a little area set aside for children. Parking is free, high chairs are there, and food arrives quickly, which matters when someone's patience has run out. The all-day breakfasts get the most praise (the sausages especially), along with ham, egg and chips, burgers, and a small but good-looking cake counter — the coffee and walnut is worth ordering. Milk comes in little bottles, which children find delightful. It's counter service, staff clear tables fast, and prices sit at fair rather than cheap. Walk through the farm shop on the way out for pies, chutneys and meat from the butcher; one parent called it "the star of the show".

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
