Tucked a little way out of Windermere's centre, this is the sort of place parents end up recommending to each other quietly. Two rooms, prettily decorated with wallpaper people genuinely comment on, and it feels cosy rather than cramped — there's buggy access, high chairs and a kids' menu, plus tables outside that are lovely in decent weather and next to a field where dogs come and go, which is free entertainment for small children. The staff are warm with young ones and service is quick, which matters when someone's hungry. The full breakfast is the thing to order, or a sausage and egg sandwich; portions are good and prices reasonable. Free parking, and it's noticeably calmer than the tourist honeypots nearby, though it does get busy — one parent found it "away from the chaos of the town".

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
