Warm and characterful inside with a log burner going in colder months, and on a sunny day families spread out by the mill pond or in the meadow, sometimes with cows for company. There's a kids' menu, high chairs and plenty of outdoor seating, and drinks can go outside in plastic glasses, which takes the anxiety out of a wobbly toddler. Classic pub food done properly — the pork T-bone and the gravy get particular praise — and the staff are genuinely warm with people. Worth knowing: the bar gets busy with no clear queue, so service can drag at peak times, and small plates lean pricey for what arrives.
