Right by Newcastle Central Station, this is a big, busy Wetherspoons — cheap plates, a kids' menu, high chairs and enough room between tables that a pram isn't a problem, plus outdoor seating in the beer garden when the weather plays fair. It's a handsome Grade II listed building, and there's a lift to the upper floors, so nobody's wrestling a buggy up the (admittedly beautiful) staircase. Food comes out quickly when it's not heaving, which matters when someone's hungry and loudly announcing it. Staff get consistently good marks for being obliging and friendly. The honest caveat: it's loud and hectic at peak times and in the evenings, so lunchtime or early tea is the sensible window with children. Families rate it "good value and handy" — a solid, no-fuss stop before or after the train.
