Tucked a little off the main road in Ashley Down, this one looks unassuming from outside and then opens up into a warren of snugs and cosy booths — good news when you've got a toddler who needs a corner to themselves. The garden is the real prize: big, plenty of seats and a bit of a sun trap, with buggy access and free parking making the arrival part easy. High chairs and a kids' menu are sorted, and the team handled a table of 22 with children without drama, warning in advance that food would come in batches. Sunday roasts get the loudest praise — generous portions, the pork belly especially — alongside the buttermilk chicken burger and hand-cut chips one visitor reckoned were "close to roast potato size". Downstairs fills fast at mealtimes, so book. Around £20 a head with a drink.
