Tucked away on Harrington Street, a short walk from the Beatles crowds, this is a traditional pub that's been smartened up — plenty of comfy seating, clean throughout, and roomy enough that you're not squeezing a pram past pool tables. Food comes out fast and cheap for the city centre, which matters when someone's hungry and cross. The scouse gets the loudest praise, along with the beef and Guinness pie, margarita pizzas and salt-and-pepper chicken wings; there's a kids' menu, high chairs and a few outdoor tables. Staff are warm and quick to sort out any problem. Worth knowing: there are sport screens everywhere and live Irish music some nights, so it's cheerful rather than quiet — better for an early tea than a late one. One parent found it "a little less lively" than the Castle Street bars.
