Tucked up a side street a Beatle's throw from Matthew Street, this is a proper old Liverpool boozer that hasn't changed in decades — bare bones, unrefurbished, and all the better for it. Daytimes are the sweet spot with children: quiet, regulars in the corner, plenty of seating so a pram isn't in anyone's way, and staff who get drinks out fast. There's a kids' menu, high chairs and a few tables outside, and prices are genuinely cheap for the city centre — the Guinness has a real following. Be warned it's a lively grown-up room come evening, with karaoke and live music at weekends, and the place shows its age; one regular cheerfully calls it a "proper boozer" rather than anything polished. Fine for a quick early stop, not a long family lunch.
