The Friars Oak
A Tudor-style Hassocks pub with comfort food, cask ales, log fires and a garden with outdoor seating for the family.

Cafés · Hassocks
Tucked into Hassocks, this is a bright, roomy café where a buggy fits without a fuss and there's plenty of seating, so you're not squeezing between tables with a toddler in tow. The staff are warm and helpful, the coffee is good, and there's a kids' menu, high chairs and outdoor seating when everyone needs air. Cakes are the real draw — they look tempting enough that people regret ordering a toastie instead — and breakfast gets consistently good mentions. They run children's events too; families found the Halloween party excellent value. Two honest notes: the room lost its craft corner under newer ownership and can feel a bit stark and chilly with the doors propped open, and the kitchen has had slow spells at busy times, so order early if someone's hungry now.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
