Tucked into the back streets near Royal William Yard, this is a small, homely place that punches well above its size — a Bib Gourmand kitchen doing clean, bold cooking. Families are properly catered for: kids' menu, high chairs, buggy access, vegan options, a few outdoor tables and free parking, which spares you the Plymouth parking hunt. The staff are warm and unhurried, and one couple who mentioned a birthday at booking were sent out a cake at the end. Mussels, the pork and duck, and the fried potatoes with a genuinely Spanish-tasting aioli come up again and again; the three-course lunch at around £35 is real value. Be honest with yourself about the size, though — it fills up and gets snug midweek, portions on the set menu are refined rather than huge, and booking is sensible.
