A proper country pub on the edge of Windsor, with cosy nooks, a garden and free parking right outside, so you're not wrestling a buggy along a pavement before you've even sat down. The menu runs long — roasts with a huge piece of lamb shoulder, steak and ale pie under generous puff pastry, fish and chips, shepherd's pie, salmon in a sauce people still talk about — and there's a kids' menu and high chairs alongside it. Portions are big, puddings (spotted dick, white chocolate cheesecake) are worth staying for, and nobody hurries you out, which matters with children mid-meal. Around £30 a head with drinks. Staff will sort gluten-free if you flag it when booking, and the toilets are clean. It does get busy and service can slow when full, so book.
