A proper sit-down spot rather than a rowdy pub, with a real fireplace, colourful decor and several different seating areas — handy when you want a corner table out of the way with a pram parked beside you. Portions are generous and prices fair for what arrives: fresh dough balls, huge tempura prawns, the beef brisket burger, and Sunday roasts with veg to share around the table. Pudding is worth staying for, especially the melt-in-the-mouth sticky toffee and the homemade ice cream. Staff are warm and quick to sort out anything forgotten. There's a kids' menu, high chairs, vegan choices, outdoor seating and free parking, which one family called a great extra. Worth knowing: the music runs loud, so conversation across a big table can be a struggle at busy times.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
