The Lingholm Kitchen and Walled Garden
A peaceful walled-garden café outside Keswick with fell views, exceptional pancakes, easy parking and a kids' menu — though it's pricey.

A proper resting stop after a lap of Derwentwater, and one that copes well with damp, hungry children — there's room between the tables for a pram, plenty of seating inside and out, and food that arrives fast. The menu wanders happily from pancakes and full English to sandwiches, burgers, salads and even a Chinese stir-fry, so fussy eaters and grown-ups both get sorted; the Chalet Grostl and the sausage rolls come in for particular praise, and the soup of the day is worth asking about. Ordering works by popping a sunflower in a wine bottle when you're ready, which children love doing. Staff are kind — one family arrived soaked from cycling and were handed towels. Free parking, high chairs and a kids' menu all help. It does sit right on the lake road, so expect passing traffic.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
