Sitting under the Tyne Bridge with two floors of seating and a patio garden upstairs, this is a roomier pub than most in the city centre, and the split levels mean you can usually find a corner that suits a family rather than being wedged into a doorway. Staff are friendly and quick to sort things out, high chairs and a kids' menu are there, and there are vegan options alongside a good beer list. The parmo in a stottie is huge and genuinely well cooked — easily shared between two. Sunday roasts get mixed press: the roast potatoes and Yorkshires are excellent, but the beef can be tough and portions don't always match the price. It fills up fast, so book, and dogs are welcome too.
