About The Briar Rose

A five-minute walk from New Street Station, this Wetherspoons pub makes an easy stop when you've got tired children and time to fill before a train. The interior is roomy and generally kept in good order, so there's space to park a pram without blocking anyone, and there are high chairs and a kids' menu. Prices are gentle and the drinks and food are decent value, though it's worth knowing the menu is fairly short and the cooking can be hit and miss — one visit brings a good, tasty plate, another a disappointing one. The staff are the standout: patient, quick to sort out a problem, and genuinely kind, with one visitor describing them as unable to do enough for you. There's a hotel attached upstairs with clean, comfortable rooms, handy if a delayed journey turns into an overnight.
