A big, sociable Bristol pub where the space itself does a lot of the work for families — room to park a pram without apologising to anyone, pool tables and darts at one end, and sport on the screens with proper seating to watch from. There's a kids' menu, high chairs and level access in, and prices stay genuinely low: fish and chips with a pint has gone for £5.99, and pints often sit around the £2.50 mark. The steak and ale pie gets warm words, and the toilets are kept clean, which matters more than it should. Be honest with yourself about timing, though — service can be slow and scattered when the kitchen's stretched, food has come out at different times for the same table, and music and TV can get loud enough that everyone ends up shouting.
