The White Bear Inn
A warmly rated York pub with outdoor seating, handy for a family bite to eat without stretching the budget too far.

Tucked into a small Yorkshire village a short drive from York, this is the sort of proper country pub that still has an open fire going and locals at the bar — and the welcome extends to whoever you arrive with, small people and dogs included. The garden is the easy option with children: outdoor tables, room to spread out, and space for little legs to move. Inside there are plenty of tables, so even on a busy Sunday families tend to be seated quickly, though food can take a while once the roasts are flowing — worth ordering something for the children early. The Sunday roast is the draw: gravy, mash and Yorkshire puddings that people talk about afterwards, plus well-liked fish and chips, sticky toffee pudding and a lemon tart. There's a kids' menu, high chairs, buggy access and free parking. The set menu is genuinely reasonable.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
