An hour's drive from home is apparently no obstacle here — families keep coming back to this Italian spot outside York, and it's easy to see why. The staff are genuinely warm with children: one parent arrived with a six-year-old set on carbonara since breakfast, and the team let him pick his own table, made the dish he wanted, and sorted his ice cream after. High chairs, a kids' menu and buggy access are all in place, plus free parking and an outdoor area for when little ones need air. The fresh pasta, seafood and porchetta draw the most praise, and there's a specials board covering an entire wall. Three courses with drinks came to around £58 a head for one table. Fair warning: it's busy and genuinely loud on a Saturday night, so book ahead and expect to lean in to hear each other.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
