About The Bank Tavern

Tucked down a back street, this is a small, cosy pub that has become genuinely famous for its Sunday roast — the waiting list runs into months, so this is one to plan well ahead rather than wander into with hungry children. The roasts are the draw: beef that people describe as extremely tender, rich gravy, rolled pork belly, black pudding stuffing, and portions that are generous without being defeating. There's a kids' menu, high chairs and buggy access, plus a tented seating area out front if you'd rather have space around the pram. Staff are warm and unhurried — one visitor found "nothing was too much." Worth knowing: it's snug inside, the men's toilets are down steep stairs, and at around £35 a head it's a treat rather than a casual drop-in.
