Wood-fired Australian-style brunch with buggy access, free parking and a kids' menu — pricey and busy at weekends, so book ahead.

Restaurants · Christchurch
Under new ownership and clearly on good form, this Walkford pub near Christchurch has the sort of layout that works with children in tow — cosy but genuinely spacious, so a pram isn't a problem and a table of six doesn't feel wedged in. There's a kids' menu, high chairs, outdoor seating and free parking, which removes most of the usual friction. Portions are generous and the cooking is a step above standard pub fare: the lamb, the crispy pork belly and the fried brie starter come up again and again, and the cinnamon crumble is worth saving room for. Staff are warm and attentive rather than fussy — one family found the atmosphere "friendly without being over the top". Worth knowing: live music nights bring a crowd and a busier room, so lunch is the calmer bet with little ones.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
