Doors open at 7am — early for Cambridge — which is a gift if your children are up at six and you've run out of ideas. It's a small Italian café-bar run by a family, and though it fills up fast, people repeatedly note how it never feels like there's nowhere to sit or walk; there's buggy access, high chairs, a kids' menu and a few outdoor tables. Food comes hot and quickly: omelette panini in toasted ciabatta, ham and cheese croissants, feta and hummus sandwiches, pastries baked on site that you smell before you're through the door. The thick Italian hot chocolate is a proper treat for children. Staff are warm and patient, coffee comes in actual cups, and prices are fair though a full breakfast for two runs to around £15. Lively rather than hushed at busy times.
