A glass-and-steel theatre module dropped inside a grand Edwardian cotton exchange, and it's the vast hall around it that makes this workable with children — plenty of tables and seating, bars, toilets and a dining area, with room to park a pram without apologising to anyone. There's a kids' menu and high chairs, the food at the Rivals bar is genuinely good, and drinks are cheaper than you'd expect for the city centre. The staff are friendly and helpful and the whole operation runs smoothly, from the pre-show buzz onwards. Theatre-in-the-round means you're close to the stage wherever you sit, which helps enormously with shorter attention spans. Two honest snags: audience chatter can spoil the quieter plays, and one visitor warns you'll want a raincoat on the front row of the splashier shows.
