Shanghai 1814 Restaurant
Beautiful cherry-blossom dining room near West Quay with high chairs, a kids' menu and Peking duck worth the treat-meal price.

A Turkish kitchen in the old Sprinkles site, and a genuinely easy one to bring children to — free parking outside, buggy access, high chairs, a kids' menu and outdoor tables when the weather holds. Breakfast is the thing here: menemen, sujuk and eggs, halloumi, French toast, and Rosemary's Fave Breakfast all come out generous and hot, with big cups of Turkish tea alongside. Portions are big enough to share with a small child, and food arrived in about 15 minutes on a busy Saturday morning, which matters when someone's patience is thin. The staff are attentive without hovering, and the owners have a real knack for making people feel looked after. It does fill up at weekends, and it's a proper sit-down meal rather than a quick in-and-out — one parent describes the atmosphere as "calming and relaxing".

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
