A proper caff in the classic sense, and one of those places where breakfast is the main event — the menu runs long enough that everyone gets something they'll actually eat, and the kids' menu means you're not splitting a fry-up three ways. Food comes out fast and hot, which matters when someone's already sliding off the chair. Panini with salad and chips lands around £3.80; the black pudding, eggs and mushrooms get particular praise. High chairs are there, you can get a buggy in, and there are tables outside if the noise indoors is too much. Service is generally warm and quick — "always lovely pleasant staff", as regulars put it — though it can be uneven at busy moments, and the toilets have let it down for some.
