Set among a working orchard and vineyard above the coast, this is an easy stop with children — plenty of outdoor seating, a play area to let them loose in while you finish a coffee, and views that do a lot of the entertaining for you. The food is simple and done well: paninis, salads, Welsh rarebit, quiche, generous cooked breakfasts, plus specials and afternoon tea. Portions run big for the price, which is genuinely reasonable, and the staff are warm without fussing. Free parking on tarmac makes the pram-and-bags shuffle painless. They press their own apple juice and cider and bottle their own wine, so there's a shop to browse on the way out. Do book — Sunday lunch fills up, and one family found it "full of locals, which is always a good sign."

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
